Q: What is the Étape Connemara?
A: Étape Connemara is a chip-timed non competitive sportive event which takes riders from Galway City into the wilderness of Connemara and back again. We are planning for 500 riders and hope the event will be fully subscribed. 2016 will be the fourth year of the event taking place.
Entry includes the following:
- Fully signed route
- Motorbike Marshal Support
- Electronic chip timing
- Mechanical support courtesy of Nigel’s Cycles
- Broom wagon
- 1 refreshment stops (water, tea/coffee, banana)
- BBQ with Hot food and drink at the finish
- Free car parking
Are TT Bars permitted?
A: No, as with all sportives, time trial bikes and tt bars are not permitted in this event for safety reasons. Riders with a TT Bike will not be allowed to start the event.
Q: Who is organising the ride?
A: The event is being organised by Croí the Heart & Stroke Charity. All proceeds from the event will go to Croí to help prevent heart disease & stroke, save lives, and promote health & wellbeing. Croí has extensive experience organising sportive events and is responsible for the cycling side of the event and all queries should be directed to Croí on 091 542404 or email@example.com
Q: Do I have to raise money for Croí?
A: No, by entering the event you are supporting the charity, although if you feel your effort in the Étape Connemara is worth a few extra euro from friends & family we would welcome your support. Simply call us on 091 542404 for a fundraising pack.
Q: Where is everything taking place?
A: We will start and finish at Croí Heart & Stroke Centre in Newcastle, Galway. The Centre is located on the edge of the city close to the N59 which riders will be cycling on.
Q: Will the roads be closed?
A: No, we will be following cycling guidelines for sportive events to avoid congestion on the roads.
Q: When does it start?
A: Start is on Sunday 21st August from 8.00 am. The start cut off time is 8.30am
First of all you will need to sign on, this will be taking place on Saturday 20th August between 12 noon until 6pm in Nigels Cycles on the Tuam Road, Galway and again from 7.00am until 8am at the start area on ride day -Croi House, Moyola Lane, Newcastle, Galway. Here you will receive your ride numbers, chip and ride information.
Q: Is there a cut off time?
A: We anticipate that the slower riders will be home within 7 hours. The finish area will be fully supported until the last rider comes home!
Q: How much will I pay for entry?
A: The entry fee is €40/€45/€50. All proceeds from the event will go to Croí. The fee includes: Electronic chip timing, mechanical support, refreshment stop at Maam, hot food and drink at the finish, free car parking.
Q: Can I get a refund?
No, we can offer entry for 2017 event.
Q: Is there accommodation available?
A: Yes – our accommodation partner is Corrib Village – View Their accommodation package here. Also there is a huge number of B&B’s, hostels & hotels throughout Galway City. There is also a fully serviced campsite for caravans, vans and tents Salthill Caravan Park just 4 Km away from the start.
